How to calculate marks percentage across subjects
Percentage compares the total marks obtained with the total marks available. Use the rows that the application, school, board or university actually asks you to include.

Read the application instruction
Check whether all subjects, best subjects, theory plus practical, optional papers or a specific semester set should be counted.

Add one complete subject per row
Enter the subject label, obtained marks and maximum marks. The maximum can differ between subjects; do not assume every paper is out of 100.

Correct any invalid row
Obtained marks cannot be negative or higher than the maximum. Incomplete rows are not silently included in the calculation.

Review totals before using the result
Compare the obtained total, maximum total and subject count with your marksheet, then follow any rounding rule printed by the destination form.
Formula explained
Percentage = obtained total ÷ maximum total × 100
The denominator must be the combined maximum marks for the same subjects included in the obtained total. Adding percentages or averaging subject percentages can give the wrong answer when subjects have different maximum marks.

Different maximum marks
A 50-mark practical and a 100-mark theory paper should not receive equal weight through a simple average of their percentages. Add 50 and 100 to the maximum total, then divide the combined obtained marks by 150.
Best-of or optional-subject rules
Some institutions ask for best five subjects, core subjects or a particular semester. The tool does not choose those rows for you. Include or remove rows according to the official instruction before treating the result as relevant.

Should practical marks be included?
Include them when the relevant application or institution counts them. If the instruction asks for theory marks only, leave practical rows out.
How do I calculate best-of-five percentage?
Add only the five subjects permitted by the best-of-five rule, then divide their obtained total by their combined maximum. Do not assume every board uses the same selection rule.
Can I calculate semester marks together?
Yes, when the destination asks for the combined semesters. Add each subject or semester total consistently and avoid counting a consolidated total together with its individual subjects.
