Educational qualification
Applicants must possess a Class 10/Secondary School Examination pass certificate with passing marks in Mathematics and English from a recognized government board of school education. A qualification described merely as equivalent from another board is not accepted unless it satisfies the notification's recognized-board requirement.
Local-language requirement
The candidate must have studied the prescribed local language at least up to Class 10. Special provisions apply to the notified language combinations in Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Sikkim and Nagaland, so candidates from those areas should read the exact language clause in the official notification before submitting the form.

India Post GDS selection process and merit list 2026
There is no written examination and no interview-based ranking for this recruitment. A system-generated merit list is prepared from the Class 10 marks entered and verified under the official conversion rules, calculated to four decimal places.
- Where marks are available, the system uses the marks as prescribed
- Grade points are converted by multiplying each grade point by 9.5
- CGPA is converted by multiplying CGPA by 9.5, subject to the notification rules
- If both individual grades and CGPA are shown, the higher eligible calculation is considered under the stated method
- Enter marks, grades or points exactly in the format requested by the official portal; do not substitute a self-calculated percentage unless asked
- For notified Tamil Nadu 2020–21 cases where the marksheet records only “pass”, the prescribed uniform percentage is 66.67%
- In a tie, date of birth and then the official category/gender priority sequence are applied; older candidates receive priority first
