Pay

Nationality/Citizenship

A candidate must be either a Citizen of India; a subject of Nepal; a subject of Bhutan; a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 intending to settle permanently in India; or a person of Indian origin who migrated from the listed countries intending to settle permanently in India. Candidates in the latter specified categories require a Government of India certificate of eligibility issued before the notification date.

One-state restriction

Candidates must apply for the vacancy of one state only; a candidate applying for one state is not eligible to apply for another. Merit lists will be drawn state-wise and category-wise.

Initial posting restriction

Selected candidates will be posted within the selected state for the first 12 years of service or up to promotion to SMGS-IV Grade, whichever is earlier.

Local-language proficiency

Candidates must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking the desired local language. Shortlisted candidates who did not study it in 10th or 12th standard must take the Local Language Proficiency Test before Personal Interview, and failure to qualify ends further consideration.

Vacancy status

Some states include backlog vacancies. Vacancy numbers and reserved-vacancy numbers are provisional and may vary according to the Bank's actual requirements.

PwBD horizontal reservation

Reservation for Physically Challenged persons is horizontal, and selected candidates will be placed in the appropriate SC/ST/OBC/EWS/UR-GEN category to which they belong.

Probation

Selected candidates will be on probation for 2 years of active service from the date of joining the Bank.

Service bond

Selected candidates must execute a Financial Service Indemnity Bond for Rs.2,00,000/- for rendering service for a minimum period of 3 years.

Prior-service increments

One advance increment may be given for each completed year of prior officer service in Scheduled Commercial banks, up to two increments, where the existing job profile specifically matches the Bank's Scale-I Generalist officer profile and certified supporting material is submitted. Candidates working with subsidiaries of Scheduled Commercial Bank are eligible for only one increment; prior experience does not count for service seniority.

Medical and verification condition

Appointment is subject to medical fitness and satisfactory verification of character, antecedents and caste certificates wherever applicable, as well as the Bank's Service and Conduct Rules; until then, appointment is provisional.

Selection process

  • Selection stagesSelection will be made based on an Online Examination followed by Language Proficiency Test (LPT) and Personal Interview. The LPT applies where candidates did not study the specified local language in 10th or 12th Standard.
  • Online examinationThe online examination consists of 140 objective-type questions across four sections, carrying 200 marks in total, with a duration of 3 hours and separate timing for each section.
  • Wrong-answer penaltyFor each wrong answer, 1/4th or 0.25 of the marks assigned to the respective question will be deducted; there is no penalty for an unattended question.
  • Online-examination qualifying marksThere are no sectional qualifying marks. Minimum qualifying aggregate marks are 30% for reserved candidates and 35% for unreserved candidates.
  • Language Proficiency TestCandidates must have proficiency in reading, writing and speaking the local language of the state applied for. Candidates producing a 10th or 12th standard marksheet/certificate showing that language as a subject are exempt from the test.
  • Personal InterviewThe Personal Interview carries 100 marks. Minimum qualifying marks are 45% for reserved candidates and 50% for unreserved candidates.
  • Final selectionOnline Examination and Personal Interview have a weightage ratio of 80:20. The minimum aggregate score is 30% for reserved categories and 35% for unreserved category candidates; selection is state-wise and category-wise from the top-ranked candidates.

    The candidates must apply for ONE STATE only, subject to fulfilment of eligibility criteria. If candidates have applied multiple times for the same state, only the last submitted application will be considered.

    Registration route

    Go to the Bank's website “www.iob.bank.in”, open the “Careers” page, open “Recruitment of Local Bank Officers – 2026-27”, select the post and click the Register Online link.

  3. 03
    Complete registration and uploads

    Register online, retain the Registration Number and Password, upload the required photograph and signature, enter all required details, complete registration, print the submitted application form, and upload the Left Thumb Impression and Handwritten Declaration.

    Application fees

    SC/ST/PwBD applicants: INR 175/- inclusive of GST, as intimation charges only. GEN/EWS/OBC applicants: INR 850/- inclusive of GST. Fees are non-refundable.

    Online payment
